Oof. A tad bit late from posting last week’s doodles but I’ll blame it on jet lag and contracting the fatigue bug from fellow air travelers. Got to take a quick vacation to where sunshine is a staple before returning to this miserable ick known as St.Louis (so much coldness and grey ;_;).
It’s time again to unload some sketches! This past week was comprised of the usual gals but with a mix of other characters (I swear I trying to be more varied!). I did start on a couple of new jointed dolls, this time borrowing from the epic battle between the Giant Squid and Sperm Whale. Once colored and assembled, I’ll be able reenact these two beasts, thrashing against each other or being civil and having a cup of tea together
That kitty looks kinda like one of mine, except way more groomed
I know it’s kinda late, being the second week of February, but I had forgotten to post some paintings that sealed 2011 and boxed it in the warehouse from Raiders for me. The first one was in a group show at Aisle 1. The other two were included in the Socio Network II group show at The Alternative Cafe in Monterey Bay, CA.
Pieces for Aisle 1 Gallery and The Alternative Cafe
I have also started on another artful adventure that I’ll keep hushed about for the time being. I will be starting as a fresh apprentice in this field and I can’t wait to get my feet wet and hit the ground running~
Holy Mother of Pearl! It’s almost the end of January and I seriously think that I’m experiencing space-time lapses because once again, time slips by so fast….
Here’s a collection of this past week’s doodles:
Moar portraits, the quickest images that come to mind
Thought I would play a bit with more light and darks, but I can’t argue with the pencil and marker, it just starts scribbling away. Seems character portraits are easiest to escape, will have to try and build better compositions for this week.
I’ve also started adventures in block printing, specifically with these Soft Kut Printing Blocks, they are amazing – carving is so easy peasy! I’m planning on making a run of sketchbooks/journals/cards with these designs ~
I’ll have them up on my Etsy shoppe, when they’re ready to go ~
Hope everyone has a wonderful week and keep on creating!
The past week’s sketches were full of crawlies, bugs, and entomology related doodles. It’s amazing how many species exists in this branch alone, something like 6-10 MILLION… so freaking diverse! Even though I only captured 7, this theme will probably be a recurring one.
Flight, Bite, Might
This week will be open, going to try for more light and shadow perhaps.
Another week swims by, here’s are the sketches from those days ~
Week 2!
Lessee, been trying to finish up Season 2 of Downton Abbey, half way there and enjoying it so far. Not having cable can be a curse when you’re trying to be current with some awesome shows. Recently just caught up with Dexter, can’t wait to see what happens in Season 7! I can probably ramble on and on about speculative story arcs in that show but I think I’ll spare you that.
This upcoming week’s sketch project theme will be entomology I think. I do love all the lovely creepy crawlies of the world. Time to give them some attention
Compilation of this past week’s doodles if you missed it
I post these guys daily over at my Instagram account.
This first week hasn’t been too difficult to put ideas on paper, but I can foresee myself scrambling at some point. Think I’ll have to theme some of the weeks to give myself a bit more structure and let the ideas flow.
First doodle of the new year! I’m pretty excited about this little sketch project and hope that I can keep it up. I think the best way to chronicle these doodles will be to use this blog to post a week’s worth of material while I’ll rely on Tumblr and Instagram to update daily.
I wish you all a wonderful and fresh start to the New Year. Let’s all try to do our best and nothing more!
Seems like the majority this year (and like many years before it) has whizzed past before my eyes. I’ve been able to meet a bunch of new people who will gratefully become lasting friends. I’ve also stumbled upon a couple of artistic endeavors that I hope will soon bloom and it’s rewards come to fruition.
However, I feel as though I should be doing more, always guilt tripping myself that I am never as productive as I should be. There are so many things do and create but if only I can sit down and structure myself a bit more. A new year is upon us and it’s heading here quite fast. I think my first discipline for the upcoming year will be to post a sketch, here or on , every single day and hold myself responsible. It doesn’t matter if it’s a fragment of a dream or a silly doodle or a full blown art catastrophe, a little something is better than an all together nothing. I challenge you to do the same, like many of us artist do, and to leave a link back if you’d like – I would love to see how much we’ve progressed.
Here’s some visuals from the past couple of months, enjoy.
Until next time

It’s been a week since the opening and I think I’ve recovered enough (sleep, check.) to finally sit down and post some pics of the opening and paintings. It was a delightful show, full of new faces to meet and mingle. My fellow artist, , and I collaborated on a piece of monstrous proportions. It features one of Ben’s floating beings, daintily skimming through the woods with one of my little bee girls, hitching a ride:
VROOOMM!! Hefty size at 2 feet by 4 feet
The piece began with team sketching and laying out the lines and was completed by passing the piece back and forth. That was an interesting experience to finish a piece that another person started without really having them there to help critique. Ben then sealed the entire piece with a super shiny (soooo shiny!!) gloss that made the wood grain pop out even more. The piece definitely deserved high-fives all around.
Prior to the show’s opening, we collaborated on a couple of panels that were installed outdoors, in front of the gallery. has ‘rotating murals’ (an excellent idea) that pretty much serves as signage for current shows and allows patrons to catch a peek of the style of art that’s going to be showcased. Here are a few pics of process and then a time lapse video from Aisle 1′s channel:
So MUCH red. You can see it for miles!

Bumble and Bramble is my first ‘real’ show (I’ve been in group calls in the past year, that wasn’t this intense) and wow, what an experience it was. I found it a bit challenging to work with multiple pieces at a time, something that I have not really had to deal with since a group show would expect no more than 3 pieces from you. I produced 19 for this show and still felt that it wasn’t enough. My mind was all over the place, wanting to paint every theme that sparked… kinda felt like a kid in a candy store, I wanted to do it all! Instead, I narrowed to a few subject matters and went from there.
Here’s selected pieces, I really enjoyed painting the Boy and Girl silhouette love birds. Expect more from that theme

Opening night has come and passed, it was great fun and a wonderful learning experience. Here’s some pics from the show:
With Chicago being about 5 hours away, it’s always a good time to take a couple of days out of a mundane routine to go romp and play. On this go around, I went over to the Museum of Science and Industry. Holy crappers it’s awesome there!!
Some of the exhibits included an extensive sprawl of miniature towns, a Body Worlds collection, numerous airplanes, and nestled a few floors below the museum, a German U-505 submarine! My favorite collection was of course the fetal development display. Lined up against the wall in a dimly lit room, stood glass cases with specimens that were levitating in an eternal stasis. Was quite a sight to behold~
